Frequently asked questions

What is Dry Cleaning?+

In short, dry cleaning utilizes solvents to remove to stains and odors.  Additionally, this process dissolves grease and oils that water cannot.

Besides being a safe process, natural fabrics  (wools, silks) benefit and prefer this treatment.  In water, they can often shrink, distort or worse.  Have you ever tried to clean a stain on silk? Yes, we have all pretty much experienced the dreaded water ring!

Does dry cleaning clothing often result in it becoming un-wearable more quickly?+

Great question! This is a common misconception.  Dry cleaning (and the proper care) prolongs the life of garments and textiles.  At times, some stains may be ‘invisible’ initially so they go unnoticed.  While you may think it is safe to return to your closet, those stains will discolor over time. (Perfect examples are often stains on ties, scarves, suits, etc.)

Questions about a stain? We always encourage clients (and the public) to consult a professional dry cleaner to ensure irreparable damage is not occurring.  When stains are ‘allowed’ to set in, you may become faced with discoloration, insect damage and more. Can I remove the care label from my clothing?+

While care labels can be irritating, they serve an important purpose.  They provide both customers and cleaners reasonable guidance regarding care and cleaning methods.  In fact, some cleaners will actually decline to clean garments without their care labels. Other cleaners will require a consent form prior to cleaning.
